Man, or Rabbit in the Moon? - 24/10/2020 (Processed composite stack)
We struggle to see the northern hemisphere’s 'Man in the Moon' as our southern vantage point rotates our view of the Moon by 180 degrees as it rises in the East. In its place we see a 'Rabbit in the Moon'.
In this rotated overlay of a First Quarter Moon, the northern ‘Man’ is seen in the dark surface features on the rotated right side of this image, and the left side shows the southern ‘Rabbit’.
An artefact of this overlay is a ridge across the surface of this surreal ‘Moon’ caused by the high relief shadow line of the Moon at First Quarter at the abutment point of the two images.
Telescope - PowerNewt 200mm f/4 with Baader MPCC Coma Corrector, No filter, Baader BCF modified Canon 70D DSLR field 64' x 95'.
First Quarter Moon captured in 6 segments using BackYardEOS 5X Planetary mode, each of 500 frames @ ISO200 at 1/250 sec. Each of the 6 segments processed with Registax 6 to stack the best 10% (50) frames, without Wavelet processing.
Microsoft Image Composite Editor used to stitch the 6 segments followed by Wavelet sharpening in Registax 6 and final processing in Adobe Photoshop CC 2020 to produce the First Quarter Moon image.
Adobe Photoshop CC 2020 used to overlay a 180-degree rotated copy to show the southern hemisphere 'Rabbit' and northern hemisphere 'Man' in the Moon.
