Notice an uneven background light in the lower middle of the image. It could be related to the 40D which seems to leak a little bit of light into long exposures from somewhere. I picked this up doing "darks' during daylight. Image taken at Perth Observatory, ~30km East of Perth City centre. at 44 degrees north this is only 14 degress above the northern horizon, but I thought I'd give it a go from this location. The nebula is defined in outline but lacking in detail.
